Burgundy Wine Country Fly-drive
4 Days, 3 nights from $499 pp dbl
w/car, breakfast and gourmet dinner daily
Le Montrachet is a stately village Manor House located in the beautiful village of Montrachet, so famous for its up scale, white wines. Ona and I had the pleasure of visiting Le Montrachet earlier in 1999 along with our French-Vacations guests Fly-Drive caravan which we led. The place was outstanding and the food has one star in the Michelin guide. The meal package we purchase is one of the simpler, less costly menus which is still excellent. But one night ask them if you can pay a supplement for the highest price menu in order to see what the best France has to offer really is.
The chef is Michel Bezout who uses local fresh produce each day. The owners are Thierry and Suzanne Gazagnes. Suzanne is from Toronto originally. Their goal is a pleasant stay with food taken in one of the best area restaurants. Of course, the Burgundy wines, white and red, will delight your table.
While in Burgundy visit Semur-en-Auxois, a little walled medieval town typical of the region. Drive the short distance to Montbard and viait the Abbey Fontenay which is so beautiful, it is listed by UNESCO as a world heritage site. Visit the Chateau du Clos de Bougeot, home of the famous Chevaliers du Tastevin. Of course, you will not want to miss the famous 15th century Hospices of the old Dukes of Burgundy in Beaune. Nearby, wine lovers can taste from the vineyards of Cotes de Nuits, Nuits St. George, Vosne Romance, Bougeot and Gevrey Chambertin.
Ona and I loved Burgundy so much we will return there next year once again for more explorations in a fly drive caravan. If you want to be notified about the departure date and details send an email request.
